Community Happenings at Macquarie Park Rotary

Community Service, 29/08/2010

Dear Members & Friends of Rotary

just putting on my Community Service hat on here and letting you know some projects we have in store for the next 4 months.

September 11th Macquarie Uni Open Day, our Club will be holding a BBQ where we will raise money for our Clubs Community Projects.

November 20th & 21st -  Multiple Sclerosis Mega Swim, at Macquarie Uni Aquatic Centre. We are getting teams together to take part in the swim for MS. I will be contacting all businesses and other organisations to get your speedo's and goggles out, or if you are like me, a kick board or an airbed so you wont get your hair wet race!

December 19th - Our big Rotary Carols by Candlelight at North Ryde Commons. Please keep this date free as well.

Also on Community News, we are looking at helping a 2 year old boy named Cooper in our community, who has become a paraplegic through an undiagnosed blood clot in his spine. I will be looking at getting some collection money boxes out and getting these delivered to all business and calling is a "Gold Coin for Cooper". More on this in the coming weeks.

Last Thursday evening I attended our Honorary Member MP Victor Dominello's fundraising evening at Curzon Hall. Also in attendance was another one of our members, the newly elected Federal MP for Bennelong John Alexander. In attendance was also some of the girl power from our Club, Trina Mosley, Margaret Lee, Millie Booth. Infact Millie organised this night, and it was a great evening.

We decided to have this rare photo of all the Macquarie Park Rotary in attendance. I happen to ask Barry O'Farrell if he wanted to be a member of our Club!, but he mentioned he was already a member at Wahroonga Club, as a Rotarian he joined our photo!

There you go just an example of when you have a different Calibre of members. In Victors Speech he mentioned how the Macquarie & North Ryde Rotary Clubs helped in the flashing lights School project which was instigated by our member MP Victor Dominello.

It doesn't matter what profession you're in, we all have our special gifts and talents and  at the end of the day if it can help someone needy in our Community, it's a win win situation for the good of mankind. Here's our picture from last Thursday evening!

Pictured above: The Macquarie Park Rotary members in attendance: Millie Booth (PR Director), Roseanna Gallo (IPP,Community Service Director), newly elected Federal MP for Bennelong John Alexander, State Local MP Victor Dominello, Margaret Lee, Trina Mosley (Vocational Director), Rotarian of Wahroonga  State opposition Leader MP Barry O'Farrell.

See you all on Tuesday.

Roseanna
