Emma's last days in Australia

Youth Service, 21/07/2008

Emma's last host parents, Robbie and Maddie Holder sent me this note about Emma's last day here:

Can you please pass on to the club that Emma left on time with only a few extra kilos that the airline let go on Sunday morning.

She had a big night here on Saturday night, two remaining students Andrew and Lorenz stayed over and they all went to a party with my son and his girlfriend, then came back here and apparently cooked chocolate pancakes and talked until they all fell asleep at 5am.

Sadly for them, I had to wake them up at 5.30am to get them out the door and to the airport, and that was very tricky believe me!!

But we arrived at the airport on time, Emma's friends from Cheltenham had got there early and had a big farewell banner stretched across the check in desk.  It was so lovely.

Then we had hours of family fun trying to fit all her hand luggage into a bag, gave up and went and bought one of those stylish tartan nylon carry alls, there was no way they would have let her on with her carry on all unzipped and exposed, undies and bras hanging out!

Off to the glass doors at about 9am, with much wailing and crying and hugging, followed by the traditional Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi as she walked through.  She really didn't want to go, kept turning back until she really had to.

We haven't heard that she arrived but I know she was going to be at her Grandparents the first night so I am sure we will hear soon and if not I will call.

Again thank you so much to you, The Gallos and your terrific club for hosting her.  She had an amazing experience, learnt a lot, and has grown in her own words a hell of a lot.

I wish you all a terrific year and hope we will be back to see you again soon.  Give us a heads up for your trivia nights, they sound like good fun!

Love
Maddie Holder
