New Breakfast meeting a success!

President's Piece, 19/06/2009

What a great start to my first official meeting as President, we almost took over the whole Vogue cafe at Macquarie centre with our breakfast meeting attendance and I'm sure the energy will move more  in a positive  direction. We had the pleasure of having Joaquin visit our club, who has just come back from Germany on his GSE tour. We look forward in having Joaquin give us a talk on his experience at one of our meetings in the next few weeks.

We also had a guest &  also a good personal friend of mine Linda Tateossian, who came to our Club on Friday to ask for our help for a young family  who has a one year girl with severe spastic quadriplegia (cerebral palsy) which affects all four limbs. She's spent the last 6 months in and out of hospitals and undergoing therapy. She requires daily stretching, exercises, positioning lessons, speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy. In addition to this she is on about three different medications some weeks. Her parents are financially strained and are seeking assistance through fundraisers.

As discussed at the meeting, The Macquarie Rotary Club will hold a raffle that will take place at my Italian show this saturday night and will be using these proceeds for the family. The  tickets are 5  for $10.00 and if any one would like to buy the tickets please see me,Additionally if anyone would like to donate a prize for this raffle please let me know. The Raffle will be drawn this Saturday 27th June at Putney bowling Club.

Also Linda who lives in North Ryde will become a Friend of the Rotary member for our Club which is great news as she has alot of experience in Youth work. Another blessing to our "flock"

I will be presenting my Club Leadership Plan in a few weeks, and discussing our projects for the year. I will be looking forward to the subcommittee that our member Mihai will chair for the Regatta plans.

Winston Readford also commented that our club should look at applying for  tax deductability especially that we are a fundraising non profit institution. Thanks to Winston who will look into this and work with Frederick on some direction into this.

Thanks to Leo who is also our sargent, has donated a Kip to our club, so now we look like real pro's when we do the coin toss!. I have attached an on the spot photo from our meeting with Leo demonstrating his new  toss with the new kip, look at his face and tell me that he is enjoying himself! with the new toy. The Vogue Cafe Manager Daniel also got in on the act and is finding out what a real "hoot" our members are.

Candidates are being sought from Employers, to nominate one  of their staff to be part of the Group study Exchange team for 2010. Applications are being sought now. The team will leave Sydney 28th Feb 2010 and return 2nd or 3rd April 2010. For any enquiries contact our AG for Riverside Vic Deeble.

North Ryde Rotary will have it's changeover this Friday evening at Atlantis Restuarant, Len & myself will be attending, if any other members would like to attend please let me know. Eastwood Rotary also sent an invitation to their change over which will be held Tuesday 30th June at the Pennant HIlls Golf Club, I cannot attend this, but Vic Tagg will be going as a representative from our Club as well as his duties  as Mayor. The district change over is on friday 3rd July at the Hornsby RSL Club, I may be going to this one, again if anyone would like to come, please let me know

As decided at our meeting, the vote was unanimous to change our meeting date to Tuesday morning which will commence Tuesday 30th June. One more meeting this coming Friday.

Let's continue with our renewed enthusiasm!
